NASHVILLE (AP) – For the 11th consecutive year, a group of the best and brightest students at Tennessee State University (TSU) were awarded Bryan A. Collins Memorial Scholarships. This scholarship award is given every year to outstanding minority students who demonstrate excellence in leadership and academics in pursuing their college degrees.
The twelve scholarship winners above were recognized and honored at 11th annual Bryan A. Collins Scholarship Program hosted on April 1 by the Alpha Theta chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
The program took place at the Floyd-Payne Campus Center on the TSU campus and attended by over 60 students, parents and faculty.

Dalicia Baldwin, Andranice Buford, Ashanti Holland, and Cordarius Shanklin were recognized as two-time winners of this scholarship. And they led an outstanding group of scholarship recipients who have demonstrated excellence both in and outside of the classroom.
According to Dr. John Cade, Associate Vice Provost – Academic Affairs and Chair of the Bryan A. Collins Scholarship Committee (pictured right): “This scholarship program, for eleven years, has supported outstanding students with great potential as they progress academically and work towards realizing their career dreams. I’m honored that this program continues as a tribute to Bryan’s legacy and his impact on our university.”
Betsy Jackson Mosley, Executive Director of the Tennessee State University Foundation (pictured right), was also on hand to as a featured speaker to recognize the co-creators and sponsors of program, Alan Collins and Francine Williams for their role in awarding over 130 scholarships during the lifespan of this program, which started in 2007. Ms. Jackson Mosley oversees all foundation, planned giving and scholarship programs at TSU and has been instrumental in providing counsel and advice which has greatly contributed to the success of the Bryan A. Collins scholarship program.

Collins scholarship…From Dallas, GA…Sophomore in Business Administration with a 3.5 GPA…Member of the Student Union Board of Governors…Supply Chain Management Club…AKPSI Professional Business Fraternity…Volunteer at the Paulding County Boys and Girls Club & Nashville Rescue Mission…Plans to own her own supply chain management company and provide services to Fortune 500 companies…According to Dr. Linda Warren, School of Business & Tracy H. Pleasants, Interim Director, Supply Chain Management Program: “Dalacia is an active student leader on campus and has quickly become one of the “go to” people within the Supply Chain Management (SCMSO) student organization. Collins scholarship…From Southaven, MS…Sophomore, Business Marketing with a 3.5 GPA…Involved in Community service for TSU’s campus church…Coach for the community majorette team…Selected as Freshman Ambassador…Owned a clothing line at age 15, youngest manager at a Walmart at age 18….Plans to own her own fashion enterprise. According to Sue Ballard de Ruiz, Design Program Coordinator in TSU’s Art Department: “Andranice has a strong desire to succeed, work ethic is beyond impressive. Has strong commitment to her community and one of TSU’s most outstanding students.”

Collins scholarship…From Indianapolis, IN…Sophomore in Social Work with a 3.2 GPA…Resident Hall Assistant…Forensics Speech & Debate Team…Plans to start career as a child and family social worker and eventually own my own practice. Also plans to do missionary work and staring a non-profit organization for disadvantaged students …According to Sean Allen, Director of Forensics, TSU: “Ashanti is an exemplary student, demonstrating a high level of leadership performance and creativity. Often sought out by her peers and shows leadership in these situations.”

Each of the student winners, as 2017-18 Bryan A. Collins scholars, will receive a $2,000.00 scholarship grant towards their tuition for the upcoming school year.
